Susantha Pathiraja started his journey into making delectable coffees at Hot Shot (which used to be at Majestic City). Three years ago, he decided to import coffee and sell them at the Good Market under the name The Brown Bean Coffee and while he sold his coffees at the Good Market he was invited to open an outlet at the Good Market Shop.
He sources his coffees from Columbia where he gets de caffeinated coffee while the regular espresso he serves is imported from Costa Rica and Peru. The Peruvian Coffee is organic.
Taste and Value for money – 5 stars
Among the variations he serves you are Caramel, Vanilla, Mocha, Hazelnut, Cappuccino, Latte, Café Mocha, Iced Cappuccino, Iced Mocha, Frosty Coffee Shakes, Hot Chocolate, Iced Chocolate and Milkshakes to name a few, while his coffees, his hot coffees in particular can be complimented with a bagel or two which are made by Island Bagels.
What will strike you most, apart from a really good cup of coffee of course, are his prices. He explains since he imports the coffees on his own and since he does not have massive overheads at the shop, it allows him to maintain a competitive and reasonably priced range of coffees.
Among the hot coffees we tasted were the Cappuccino and Café Latte (Rs 250 each).
While he does a yummy and strong Mocha Chocolate Marathon (Rs 350) which will keep you buzzing on a coffee high for a few hours.
His Frio Choco-Nut Blast (Rs 350) is like a coffee dessert drink with chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce and topped with cocoa powder and nougat it is a super treat to cool you down or just indulge on a cold wet afternoon in Colombo.
