It was yet another long weekend. While most people headed out of Colombo for parties and eventful retreats, I was anticipating yet another private and tranquil escapade. And once again, our choice was perfect!
We checked into an elegantly furnished welcoming villa with everything we needed for a relaxing getaway.
The calm and serene atmosphere pervades and the place takes your relaxation very seriously.
The Villa
‘Sri Villas’ has three two storey villas located directly on the beach just 10 minutes away from ‘Bentota’ (84kms from Colombo). It can house upto 18 people comfortably in the nine suites.
Each villa has its own dining, sitting and kitchen areas. Sagara, Nisala and Araliya (three villas) are gifted with spectacular panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. The beautiful, rarely visited beach stretches for about half a kilometre and the garden seamlessly blends into the golden sand.
The villas share one 30 metre swimming pool, each dwelling offers refined luxury and is popular with couples and small families wanting stylish accommodation with direct sea views on a safe swimming beach. All I could think of was to invite my leisure addicted friends over for a splendid poolside gathering.
We were greeted by the polite team headed by the manager Jayantha, and he suggested we indulged in the Sri Villas MUST TRYS (Shown below) right away. He also introduced us to our own houseboy Gihan who ensured our vacation was flawless.
According to Jayantha each villa is staffed with 2 houseboys working shifts. Thanks to this wonderful concept, the service at the villa was exceptionally personalised.
We stayed at the ‘Nisala Villa’ with classy white walls (with hints of peach, brown and beige) wrapping the entire structure, elegantly designed modern and simple furniture, high ceilings, tall louvered doors and windows, and open spaces to allow the serene ocean breeze to permeate the property.
This setting was so peaceful we often felt like we were the only people there – despite the other villas being occupied.
It is located in the middle overlooking the swimming pool with two wonderful master suites on the second floor each with comfortable king sized beds and chic bathrooms, a very large private dining and living area, and an open plan modern kitchen with bar.
The master suites are air-conditioned and have a large private balcony. It was perfect for a chat or just to plug in your music and sink in the endless view of the ocean.
We woke up feeling refreshed and enjoying an enviable space of luxury and privacy. And I must say the feeling is special when you wake up in your own private paradise, sipping a hot cup of tea or coffee in the balcony.
Time for Sri Villas Indulgences!
The team headed by the lively and pleasant chef Samantha served us lunch dinner and breakfast all of which preserved the unique identity of the villa indulgences.
The lunch was just an explosion of innovative and flavourful dishes, followed by rice with a unique array of portions including Kohila Fried Curry, Deep Fried Banana Blossom and Breadfruit slices, Chopped Lotus stem sambol , Chicken, Dhal, Papadam, Prawns, Tempered ‘Batu’ and Sprats and a luscious Pineapple curry while we were also offered a complimentary beverage to enjoy a romantic dinner by the pool.
For dessert it was an authentic ‘Coconut Plant’ - A coconut infused caramel pudding.
I’m a huge fan of Egg hoppers and the hotel staff obliged to fix crispy hoppers accompanied by ‘Lunu Miris’ and ‘Sini Sambol’ for breakfast.
Must Trys
I was all up for a delectably unique dish, which Chef Samantha gladly put together with a smile. A garden Salad infused with juices and natural acids spun around the conventional dish into an 'anytime anywhere' salad. Healthy and succulent indeed!
Silky spaghetti tossed with deep fried garlic and olive oil was up next.
I always save the best for last. It was time for the Showstopper!
Jumbo Prawns dabbed in rustic Semolina Flour. I was left speechless. And the picture says it all!
Sri Villas was a breath of fresh air! The invigorating views and surroundings complemented by impeccable personalised service and the unique delectable dishes let us forget about the world and the bustle in the city for some quality ‘home away from home’ time.
