As part of the group's 10th year celebration, local audiences will be treated to a variety of some of the best known and loved local classics, such as Mangala Mohotha, Nim Him Sewwa, Ganga Addara, Master Sir, as well as popular Tamil hits like Chinna Chinna Asai and Nilaave Vaa to name a few. The show is in collaboration with the great Sri Lankan Maestro himself; Pandit W.D. Amaradeva and the Amaradeva Foundation, along with well-known local artists such as Nimal Mendis and Ravibandu Vidyapathi. Inspirations for the Tamil classics have been taken from artists such as Ilaiyaraja and A.R. Rahman, whose music has transcended boundaries.
Ranked with some of the most renowned choirs in the world, Soul Sounds continues to take up the challenge to venture into different genres of music, and enthrall Colombo’s music loving audiences. Over the past 12 months alone the choir has presented seven concerts, ranging from Christmas, to Gospel, to Jazz, to Pop and Sacred music. Soul Sounds is honored to have been given the opportunity to perform the timeless classics of artists such as Pandit W. D. Amaradeva, Nimal Mendis, Indrani Perera and Mignonne Fernando. Incidentally it was the song Mangala Mohotha, composed by Mignonne Fernando that gave the choir its first international recognition, when a rendition of the famous tune helped them win second place at the prestigious Llangollen International Musical Eistedfodd in Wales, ten years ago.
The journey of Soul Sounds throughout the past ten years has been diverse and exciting, not only for the choir, but also for the many audiences that have joined Soul Sounds on this ride. The choir continues to grow from strength to strength, entertaining audiences both in Sri Lanka and around the globe.
