Sentiments Gallery is the new place in town for custom hand made sarees, accessories and decorative house ware. Menique Fernando is the brainchild behind this all new venture. With a long banking career of 14 years behind her, she now teaches primary school children. She also holds two diplomas in Interior Designing.
As to what’s available on the product range, there’s more than you could grasp at once. Custom orders are undertaken for everything from sarees to bangles, cosmetic cases, cushion covers, table mats and runners, chair shawls, wall hangers and so on. You can rest assured that since it’s custom made, you’ll be the sole, proud owner of what you request, and since everything is originally designed and handcrafted there is no compromise on quality.
The products can be requested with the work of your choice on it, be it embroidery, bead work, thread work or mirror work, you name it. Attention to detail is something that is of paramount importance at Sentiments Gallery.
Her bangles and pencil cases are done with thread work, while the pencil cases are water proof on the inside, so even if ink leaks it won’t soak the beautiful exterior.
Reflecting on her inspiration to start the gallery, Menique said, “I’ve always wanted to become an architect and couldn’t – banking had taken up all my time. Interior designing, on the other hand, opened up myriad avenues.”
With a deep-rooted desire to make life colourful and interesting in general, Sentiments Gallery is the outcome of her combined flair for colour and design.
Menique is someone who has well understood that products in the store are created for masses, and therefore essentially lacks individuality. All her products therefore are made on customer order, specifically catering to individual likes and dislikes, “What suits one person need not suit another, and there’s no guarantee something made for the masses hanging in a store will flatter you.”
If you are keen on colours then Sentiments Gallery is for you. The gallery will prove to be of special appeal to those also looking for something different to what’s in stores, or what you have seen at every other friend’s house.
Menique also specialises in turning out products with a deeper, oriental taste. If you saw something somewhere, for instance while you were travelling, and wish to reproduce it she is glad to do so.
Summing up, she stressed, “Even when I give a gift I first consider how I would feel if I received the same. Similarly, when I create something I put in as much effort and attention as though it was for me. The mark of a true interior designer is to cater to the client’s desires and need by creating something that is closest to what’s on their mind.”
