What inspires your art?
Everything inspires my art. It arises from what I see, what I hear, what I imagine and my dreams too. Even from listening to music.
How did you come up with your interesting art style?
It is a coincidence. I wanted to do it in my own way i.e. my own interpretation- giving complete freedom to imagination...and people liked it.
How do you think you have contributed to Sri Lanka's art scene?
Ever since the advent of TV and information technology, people’s taste has improved immensely. They started look for art which creates an impact rather than just being beautiful. I am able to fulfill this to some extent.
Where would you like to go from here?
I have a long way to go. Sri Lankan art fetches only a fraction when compared to our big brother India, in the international art market. I mean in art auctions like Christie's and Sotheby's. I must see Sri Lankan art too fetch millions of dollars before I die.
Any advice to upcoming artists?
They must discover themselves. Paint every day. Read a lot about both local and international art. Get the maximum out of internet. Depend on yourself rather than the governments or god.
Why this gap?
Because we are still not looking at art from an investment point of view. Wealthy Indians invest a lot in art. They even do money laundering in art!
