No.41 Horton Place, located diagonally opposite the Institute of Aesthetics , houses Colombo’s first fashion concept store as well as the cities largest contemporary art gallery.
This hub for art and design presents a new collaboration between the two daughters of Sri Lankan design guru, Shanth Fernando.
As the next generation, both Annika and Saskia worked closely with their father and identified different sections of Paradise Road that individually inspired them.
So began the extension of the Paradise Road philosophy, PR and Saskia Fernando Gallery.
PR is the newest store in the Paradise Road chain of retail stores. The elegant boutique which shares its premises with the Saskia Fernando Gallery, stocks designer clothing, accessories and lifestyle items with a strong design sensibility and therefore prefers to label itself as Colombo’s first true ‘Concept Store’ as opposed to a fashion store.
The store exclusively retails reputed Indian fashion labels Rajesh Pratap Singh, Abraham & Thakore, Sanchita, Eka and Smallshop as well as local design labels, Touche, Salt, Maus, Khogy, Conscience, TukTuk and Stringhopper.
In addition to clothing for men, ladies and children, the store currently stocks local jewellery labels, Ayne and Saskia Fernando’s new range, ‘Papillon du The’.
Additional local and international labels will be introduced during the course of the year.
Saskia Fernando Gallery launched in 2009 and now presents three separate viewing spaces at its new location.
The gallery continues to represent the leading established and up-and-coming artists from Sri Lanka or those resident to the island.
Now the gallery will, as of 24 January 2014, continuously run an exhibition on the ground floor level.
The first floor features a permanent space for new media work by leading contemporary artists, or work curated and selected by the gallery.
The private viewing area continues to function as did the previous gallery space, continuously exhibiting a selection of pieces by artists represented.
PR is open daily from 10am to 6pm, including Sundays and Public Holidays.
Saskia Fernando Gallery is open daily from 10am to 7pm.
