When burying your nose deep in the pages of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, I’m absolutely certain you’ve all thought of this magical concoction and how it would taste like, because it really does sound like a warm, comforting, butterscotch-y drink. Inspired by the fictional beverage in the Harry Potter series, Rama’s Tea House serves a mean Butterbeer, complete with delicious froth which leaves a moustache on your upper lip. While it may not be warm as it is served chilled, the drink (also free from alcohol despite its name) tastes strongly of butterscotch and it is infused with tea. It is also incredibly sweet so it might leave you feeling rather full, so it’s suggested that it be shared with a friend, as the froth keeps multiplying as well.
Rama’s is the brainchild of Sarathchandra Ramanayake, who owns the restaurant and manages it with his wife Shereen. Shereen says she designed the entire menu with her husband and they’ve included popular pub fare favourites while including other staples such as rice and pasta. Focusing on snacks and main meals, customers can pick from sandwiches and burgers to pasta and rice dishes or salads if you’d like something light. Be warned though, portions are really huge and you will get stuffed easily and from the two occasions I have visited Rama’s, I’ve ended up sharing dishes.
Every dish is made fresh upon order, and the garlic sauce and mayonnaise used as accompaniments for certain dishes are made in-house on a regular basis. A host of tea infused beverages are on the menu and this includes tea shakes, iced and hot flavoured teas.
Moving on to desserts, you will find fried Mars bars with ice cream, an incredibly decadent dessert - perfect for rounding off your dining experience at Rama’s. Digging your spoon in to crack the chocolate bar to find oozing caramel and chocolate, to be eaten with vanilla ice cream. Also on the menu are chocolate brownies served with vanilla ice cream. Rama’s is introducing four new desserts to the existing menu which are fresh strawberries or mangoes with cream, green tea ice cream and green tea frozen yoghurt, both of which are made in-house. The green tea ice cream includes strong hints of jasmine and is (obviously) green in colour but don’t let the colour put you off because it’s a refreshing dessert, and well balanced in terms of flavour and sweetness.
Rama’s Tea House is open everyday from 11AM-11PM.
