Prasadini Dekker works as a PA in an international school in Dubai. A great lover of the outdoors and travel, she uses every opportunity to travel the word discovering new places and vistas to see.
Why do you love travel?
To enjoy a break and escape from the pressures of work. I feel that leisure time is ideally spent when away from the domiciled country.
Your favourite travel destination and why?
1. Berlin and Munich, Germany. The places are rich in history. We learnt much about the World War (Dachau Concentration Camp) and more importantly the collapse of Communism.
2. The Christmas Markets in the town square with the wafting aroma of traditional Gluhwein (hot punch) and cinnamon spiced seasonal.
What do you need for a perfect holiday?
1. My husband who doubles up as my official photographer!
2. A good map.
3. Plenty of time to experience the local culture, its people and traditions, site see and most importantly enjoy the culinary delights of the place.
4. Weather hovering around 15-20 degrees with sunshine and blue skies.
In which country have you felt most at home?
UK.
Most unusual souvenir you have brought home?
An intricately handcrafted ceramic wall plate from Istanbul depicting Byzantium art.
Favourite holiday discovery?
The Lake Ullswater Cumria, UK which has been aptly described as the Switzerland of England.
Worst holiday or travel experience?
A package tour to the Holy Land (Israel) which was packed with far too heavy an itinerary. A country so steeped in religious significance for three of the main religions of the world and sadly we didn’t have enough time to connect with the place. We were rushing from one spot to another.
Best piece of travel advice?
Read upfront about the place of travel and do not have a cluttered itinerary. There is so much more to see than you ever envisaged and you need the time to take it in. Be open and have a positive approach to experience something different and unforgettable.
Your top five travel destinations?
Berlin, Munich, Lake District in Cumria, Istanbul and Austria.
What has travel taught you?
That every country is blessed and has something to offer be it the salubrious nature, the renowned sites, the friendly people, culture and traditions and not least gourmet food and wine.
What is the country you will never go back to and why?
I have to admit that I have not done extensive travelling. The countries I have visited so far have welcomed us and made us feel very safe.
Which country did you taste the best ever cuisine?
Bavarian cuisine in Germany.
Next travel destination?
Australia.
