Sunday Poolside Brunch at Hilton Colombo Residence
I firmly believe Sundays are all about indulgences, whether it be an idyllic jaunt to the beach or pigging out on delicious home cooked rice and curries. Looking for the ideal brunch that has indulgence written all over it? Then, head on to the Hilton Colombo Residence for the Sunday Poolside Brunch where you can feast on over 140 assorted dishes, ranging from Mediterranean delicacies to Japanese or a little bit of Indian or even some Sri Lankan to get those taste buds working.
Starters
Kicking things off with starters, I am left rather unsure of what to pile on to my plate first. There’s sushi, sashimi, smoked salmon, crackers, brie, other types of cheese and a host of other items such as hummous, pita, miniature platters of pasta salad, beetroot salad and sautéed aubergines, in addition to croutons and soup. You are left spoilt for choice, and starters will leave you satisfied, hoping for more indulgence when it comes to starting on the mains.
Mains
Moving on to the mains, you will find seafood paella, baked cauliflower with cheese, baked baby eggplant, paneer makhani (to be paired with naan or white rice), crumb fried chicken, French fries, tartar sauce, along with roast lamb and baked fish.
For the person who simply can’t do without Sri Lankan rice and curries, there’s a separate serving of traditional local delicacies in clay pots such as fiery pol sambol, freshly prepared gotukola sambol, chicken curry, fish curry, crab curry, potato curry and rice along with achcharus and chutney.
If you’d like a touch of Italian in your brunch, you can get your spaghetti or pasta prepared to your own liking. There’s spaghetti, fusilli, tortellini, and ravioli which can be prepared using a light tomato sauce or creamy alfredo sauce, whatever you wish. For those who wish to kick things off with a breakfast item, you can choose from cereal and toast with jams and butter before you start on the mains.
Desserts
Aaah, desserts. Despite being completely stuffed, I simply can’t say no to dessert. Row after row of lime green pots bearing gleaming chocolate mousse, squares of chocolate fudge, a range of cakes cut into small pieces, mini chocolate doughnuts with cashew nuts on top, mini glazed pink doughnuts and little squares in addition to freshly cut fruit, and ice cream with add-ons such as chocolate sauce and chopped nuts.
The Sunday Poolside Brunch has garnered a favourable response so far and it was revamped in January, says Executive Chef Priyal Wijesuriya. “We want to focus on the food being as healthy as possible, of the best quality and fit for a family. The menu rotates every week, and everything is prepared fresh,” stressed Chef Wijesuriya.
It is held on level 3, adjacent to the Verandah Bistro restaurant from 12PM-3PM.
It is advisable to make a reservation on 011 5344644 extension 635, and mention if you want to be seated inside or you may opt for alfresco dining by the pool. Price : Rs.2400nett.
