With the Vesak season upon us, our streets and houses are soon to be festooned with lovely lanterns in colours of every hue. My children take great delight in creating these masterpieces that they so proudly hang up in every crook and cranny of our house. Here is a twist on the traditional paper lantern, origami style. Get creative!
Things needed.
Paper used to make lanterns
Wire
Glue
Step One
Take you piece of paper and demark according to the above measurements
Step Two
With a pencil, slightly mark the guidance lines for folding, then fold according to the line.
Step Three
Repeat step two but in the opposite direction
Step Four
Draw straight lines across and fold accordingly.
If you would like to get creative you can ask the older children to decorate certain triangles intermittently with glitter or sequins. Fold the two edges of the lantern and wrap some wire around the top and bottom to give it some weightage. Make a wire handle and wrap some tissue paper around it. Your lovely origami lantern will be a sight to behold.
