The ‘ChaayaBlu IODAAsian Optimist Championship’ was declared open on the 2^nd of June at ChaayaBlu Trincomalee in the midst of a spectacular opening ceremony.

The ceremony saw the performances by the Sri Lankan Navy which infused local tradition and culture. Representing 13 Asian countries, this year’s Championship welcomed 80 competitors in total.

The guests were received at the official venue, ChaayaBluTrincomaleein true Sri Lankan spirit by the hotel staff.

Dignitaries present at the event were Captain AbdurRehman Arshad - Vice President IODA for Africa, Asia and Oceania, Chairman of the organizing committee - Mr. Joseph Kenny, President YASL - Mr. Chandima Gunawardene and Chief Guest Commander of the Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral J. Colombage and wife Mrs.SrimaColombage.
