Gregory Rose has become a familiar and well-loved figure at SOSL concerts, and his association with the orchestra goes back over a decade. The concert will be at the BMICH, and features Asitha Tennekoon, one of Sri Lanka’s finest tenors, as soloist.
The SOSL chorus, comprised of members of leading choirs in Colombo and Kandy, will present a number of your favourite and most rousing choruses, including Verdi’s Anvil chorus from Il Trovatore and the chorus of Hebrew slaves from Nabucco, Wagner’s Pilgrim's chorus from Tannhauser, and Puccini’s Humming chorus from Madama Butterfly.
The orchestra will also perform some operatic classics like Verdi’s Grand March from Aida, and the overture from Rimsky Korsakov’s The Golden Cockerel.
Asitha Tennekoon, who studied for his Bachelors in Vocal Performance at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, and has been a featured soloist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir and many others, will be performing “Il mio Tesoro” from Don Giovanni, “Una furtive” from L’esir d’amore by Donizetti, and Gounod’s “Ah! Lève-toi” from Roméo et Juliette.
The SOSL’s Night at the Opera promises to be an unforgettable evening of choral music. The SOSL presents this event as a Memorial concert to Prof. Earle de Fonseka.
Tickets will be open to the public for online purchases through www.tickets.lk while tickets could be purchased from Tickets.lk at 5th Lane, Colombo 03, Yamaha Music Center, Colombo 07 and Sarasavi Book Shop, Nugegoda from the 12th of May.
