Bars Cafe since its inception has always served up some delicious culinary treats and for seven days starting March 5, they will be trying their hand at some Mexican delights.
The options for this promotion are small – that of four mains and two desserts, but each dish is a meal in itself, and most importantly, the dishes are delicious and fresh.
The Chilli Con Carne was definitely my favourite with its soft ground beef, kidney beans and cheese served with corn chips, it was a delight to dig into and the portion was massive – easily enough for two.
Next on my list were the Chicken Quesadillas. This folded corn tortilla filled with a chicken mixture and sprinkled with cheese is served with fresh salsa, guacamole and sour cream. The sides complimented the Chicken Quesadillas to perfection. This portion too, was pretty large but on a day that I choose to be greedy, I could easily devour the whole dish on my own!
The other two dishes on the menu for the Mexican food promotion at the cafe are the Chicken Enchilada and the Prawn Enchilada. Both are served with salsa, guacamole and sour cream with the only difference being the fillings in each – that of chicken and prawn. These were also quite tasty.
The flavours in all the mains were as authentic as it gets and well worth the price you pay. I loved the tangy flavour of the fresh salsa as well as the creaminess and slight tangy flavour of the guacamole. The flavours were subtle as they usually are in Mexican food but at the same time extremely scrumptious.
And if you have a sweet tooth, do not fret, as you have the choice of having their Banana Flambé or their Apple Enchilada. The former is sautéed warm banana served with French Toast topped with butterscotch sauce and a delicious blob of vanilla ice cream. This was definitely my favourite of the two desserts but I must say that the Apple Enchilada was interesting. It consisted of small chunks of stewed Apple in a rich cinnamon infused syrup wrapped in a soft tortilla and topped with butterscotch sauce as well as a cinnamon and vanilla sauce and a large dollop of vanilla ice cream.
After nibbling on all the dishes, on a really warm Thursday afternoon, I can say that I was stuffed and needed a nap – so head that way some time and try out these delectable Mexican treats. The Prawn Enchilada aside the rest of the dishes are priced at Rs. 800 while the Prawn Enchilada will be Rs. 1,000 and the two desserts will be Rs 400 each. The Mexican food promotion at Bars Cafe which started yesterday (March 5), ends on March 11 and depending on the feedback they receive, some of the dishes might just continue to stay on the menu.
