Pet's details:
Names: Socksy (12 years), Isis (7 years) and Tinky (5 years)
Breed: Sri Lankan Feline Royalty (They seem to think so!)
Owner: Shanuki a.k.a. ‘Momma’ (35)
What was the thinking behind naming them?
Socksy because of her four white socks, Isis because of her Egyptian goddess-like lined eyes and Tinky because she was cute and tiny like Tinkerbell.
Take us through their daily routine.
1. Poke and scratch the human awake at an ungodly hour because ‘anytime is mealtime’
2. Milk and biscuits for breakfast at around 8am. Joined by neighbourhood loafer Tomcat.
3. Ignore the resident human the whole day while we bask in the sun, vomit on her couch or fight with each other.
4. Play with our stuffed toy mice that the human generously leaves around the house. Sometimes we will add a real mouse to the collection, but the human doesn’t seem to approve.
5. Scream the house down until the human feeds us rice, fish and chicken in the evening
6. Sit on the human while she watches TV. Block her view if we can.
7. Attempt to eat off the human’s dinner plate. Because anytime is meal time.
8. Use human as a warm bed as we all curl up and sleep… with occasional spats and fights for tummy space.
What is their favourite snack?
Isis loves Whiskas wet food, Socksy likes chicken and Tinky favours milk.
Do they have a particularly favourite place to sleep and hang out?
Isis – the couch, Tinky – the study table and Socksy – the bed.
Do they like to dress up and take selfies?
I dare you to try dressing my cats up. Come with a first aid kit for yourself!
Have you always been a pet lover, and if so how did it all start?
Yes. It started in the womb. It also helped to have parents who have raised every sort of animal imaginable as pets; from deer, wild boar, otters and monkeys to leopard cubs.
Who was your first pet?
A Pomeranian named Naughty.
What is having a pet like?
Like a light in your life and a reason to live. Ask any mother how they feel about their child… that’s how I feel.
What is bathtime like? Or do they even allow you to bathe them?
If you bathe us, we will kill you.
How do they react when you head out and when you return home?
All three cats will see me to the front door when I leave and sit at the steps watching until I am out of sight. When I get home, all three are once more by the front door waiting. The first thing they do is lead me to their plates or bite my ankle.
Could you imagine life without your pet or any pet for that matter?
No. I have never, not had a pet. Or three.
What is the most precious moment you share with your pet?
Every second is precious. Even the smelly ones.
