Master Campers, maestros in luxury camping
Camping is fast becoming a popular way to enjoy the wilderness of Sri Lanka. Gone are the days when camping was associated with leaking tents sans toilets in muddy pitches while struggling to light a fire to cook your meal. Instead luxury camping or glamping, that is glamorous camping to the uninitiated, is making great strides in the tourism industry in Sri Lanka.
Master Campers is one such company which offers luxury camping. Run by two brothers Isuru and Uditha Arambawela, they offer camping experiences in Uda Walawe, Yala, Kumana and Wilpattu, however if you prefer a beach location then you can select from either Induruwa or Trincomalee. Master Campers has created their own bespoke tents which offer the ultimate in comfort. Their fully carpeted tents come with attached toilets and shower cubicles with hot water powered by solar energy. The tents are well furnished with comfortable beds, scrupulously clean linen, solar lights, meshing on window spaces to prevent insects and curtains. There is also a little verandah space outside the tent.
Camping options range from a minimum of one night to a maximum of two nights in keeping with camping regulations, however extensions are available on prior discussion and in certain areas. Master Campers have two varieties of tents which vary slightly in size but no less in comfort.
Luxury, comfort, delectable cuisine, and providing a novel experience are the order of day with Master Campers as they pride themselves in providing their guests with every aspect of luxury and that they certainly do. If you are camping close to a wildlife park the guests are met on arrival and welcomed with ice cold towels, a treat after a long hot journey. Fresh juice is served on arrival and you are immediately made to feel at home. The meals they provide are varied and made using local produce. Gourmet cooking is the norm with Eastern and Western cuisine cooked with equal ease by the versatile chef Roy. Lunch is usually a feast of typical Sri Lankan rice and curry with the tables groaning under the weight of the range of curries. Dessert is usually a pudding or a platter of fresh fruits.
After sleeping off the delights of lunch Master Campers takes you on a guided tour of the park. On returning to the camp you are served tea and perhaps a slice of cake baked in their makeshift oven when you must see if you decide to camp with them. Dinner is usually a three course meal which includes a BBQ option. Hot hoppers for breakfast along with the other Sri Lankan staples is the norm at breakfast time served along with more fresh fruit. There is nothing more pleasurable in life than watching nature at its best while dipping a hot hopper in a bowl of curry all served to you by a friendly bush butler who is always at your beck and call.
Hotels are springing up all over Sri Lanka, however if you are a discerning traveller who wants to explore some parts of the island with a sense of adventure while being at one with nature then luxury camping might be the perfect option for you and what better to way to do so than with Master Campers.
