A stretch of golden sandy beach like no other
Miles of golden sand stretching as far as the eye can see next to an azure blue sea with water like a sheet of glass, Marble beach is by far one of Sri Lanka’s best beaches. The North Eastern seaside town of Trincomalee plays host to Marble Beach. Trincomalee a former naval bastion has many scenic bays. Marble beach is situated in one such mini bay. Close to China Bay, Marble Beach remains an unspoilt beach paradise.
Capitalising on the idyllic coastline, under the auspices of the Air Force the Marble Beach resort was built just after the cessation of hostilities. Run by the Air Force the Marble Beach Resort is an ideal weekend retreat.
The resort has a variety of chalets and cabanas which can accommodate from two to six people. Several new chalets have been built and they are of star class standards. All chalets have en suite bathrooms with hot water showers and all modern conveniences. Tastefully decorated, all chalets offer excellent views of the ocean.
The Yacht restaurant offers a wide selection of fresh seafood that includes both Sri Lankan and international cuisine. In addition to the A la Carte menu there is also a buffet. The restaurant specialises in Sri Lankan cuisine and their seafood curries warrant a special mention. The resort also has a spa which offers a variety of ayurvedic treatments. The beach front bar “Eagles Nook” serves local and imported spirits and provides the ideal venue to sit back and relax while watching the ocean as twilight sets in.
There is a wide range of activities to engage in at the resort, snorkelling being one. The lifeguards are on hand to help you and take you to where the corals and fish can be seen. The staff is great with keeping the kids entertained, they even took my young son out snorkelling and took great care of him and gave him an experience to remember. The beach although perfectly safe and calm is always patrolled by life guards and is kept clean and free of debris, it truly is pristine!
For the more adventurous there is a hike which takes you up some cliffs where you can see old bunkers, munition storage facilities and watch towers now overrun by foliage which provide a glimpse of the remnants of the British occupation of Trincomalee. For golf lovers the excellent Eagles Golf Course is a five minute drive away. This too is run by the Air Force and has a superb clubhouse in addition to a hire shop to hire your golfing requirements if you are caught short.
A perfect blend of sun, sea, beautiful views and great ambiance, a visit to the Marble Beach Resort is a must especially for beach lovers!
