Veteran Kanthi Ranchigoda’s bi-annual production had a successful weekend at the Lionel Wendt, drawing in dance enthusiasts of all ages.
The evening consisted of a delightful and well balanced line-up of dance genres and numbers, ensuring that the audience never got bored. The visually appealing backdrop, lighting and vibrant costumes came together in supplementing the high quality production.
Dancers from Kanthi’s dance studio - Dance Works Centre - performed to popular numbers like “New York New York”, “Cats” and even did the famous Cancan dance. It was heartening to see dancers of all ages given a chance to shine with an equal number of performances and stage time. The youngest dancers of the lot seemed especially popular and added an adorability quotient to the show, as the audience oohed, aahed and erupted into enthusiastic applause at the end of their performance.
A few performances could have been better - the hip hop numbers especially lacked attitude. There were also a few minor issues with synchronization. Nevertheless, there definitely was dance - coupled with plenty of talent and entertainment.
We caught up with the audience about their views on the show. Here’s what they had to say:
