Having opened their doors to customers last year, Indian Summer will celebrate one year of having opened in Colombo this December. With Colombo’s ever growing plethora of Indian restaurants, Indian Summer stands out, owing to their excellent fare and service, thus ensuring that customers will always return back.

When we dropped in there on a Monday afternoon for a review, the restaurant had a few tables occupied with preparations for a larger party arriving a bit later.

To start things off, I was served the Indian Summer Special Chicken Soup – a deliciously peppery and creamy soup with pieces of diced chicken, and served hot.

Next was the Kebab Platter, which comprised of 5 little appetizers of 4 large squares of paneer prepared in 4 different ways and a stuffed tandoori button mushroom. Dressed in sauces alongside sautéed onions and capsicums, the paneer was extremely flavourful and didn’t disappoint with each flavour coming through excellently. The tandoori button mushroom stuffed with spiced mashed potatoes stood out, and this little platter makes a perfect start to a meal, especially if you’ve come with a few friends so it can be easily split. Do note that the appetizers are quite heavy so, don’t let it ruin your appetite for the main course, which incidentally is what happened to me.

My main course consisted of two large pieces of butter naan sprinkled with chopped garlic, served with Murgh Lababdar – honey tossed boneless chicken in a thick brown cashew gravy. Cue the heart eyes emoticon, for delicious didn’t quite cut it. Packed with flavour from the spices it’s cooked in, this star of a curry bears hints of sweet owing to the honey, and pairs excellently with the naan.

By then, I was quite full to even think of dessert but overall an utmost pleasant lunch experience. The service was great, with a waiter present when you need your glass of water refilled or to answer a question about a dish.

The restaurant has facilities for private events, with customizable menus for customers to choose from, in addition to accommodating corporate meetings complete with a projector and screen. They also undertake orders for outdoor catering.
