Pet's details -
Name:  Harley
Breed: Golden Retriever
Age:  5 years young!
Owners: Harin , Priyanthi & Dunith:  Harin Dias has been  the ‘main owner’ from day one but I (Priyanthi De Silva) have become ‘Mummy’ to Harley  since 2 1/2 years ago and my Son (Dunith) has become his buddy . We are his family!

Questions:

What was the thinking behind naming your pet?

Harin loves motorbikes – like the Harley Davidson so he named his pet, ‘Harley’.

What is your daily routine with your pet?

I always give Harley his meals before I have mine. So, breakfast, then kisses, cuddles, playing, brushing, more kisses and cuddles, chats and a walk to the beach. The latter happens  without fail every single day, rain, shine, cold winter winds, any other season, reason – whatever – nothing stops me from giving Harley the one thing he loves – Going to the beach! Back from the beach, I have to get sand off him, brush him and then dinner.

Does Harley have a favourite snack?

Haha! Are you kidding?! Just about anything and everything is gulped down! There is no ‘one’ favourite item!

Does he have a particularly favourite place to sleep and hang out?

Yes! His big comfy pet bed. How he fits in to it, I don't know, but he loves it! Sometimes he snuggles in it and watches the lake and the birds through the balcony.

Does he like to dress up and take selfies with you?

I have never dressed him up but my cousin's three kids have, and they’ve sent me really cute, funny photos! I just love photographing him and he has more patience and less drama than any supermodel, when posing for me.  Harley also has his own Facebook page – Harley Dias –  with 40 friends who are mainly female! My friends are all in love with him!

Have you always been a pet lover if so how did it all start?

Gosh YES!!!  There have been dogs in my home from the day I was born and I have had so many  dogs, I have even picked up stray dogs and given them homes! My family and my friends are all dog/animal lovers. I simply cannot relate to anyone who isn't.

Who was your first pet?

I suppose it was the big beautiful German Shepherd who was already in our home before we were born and used to sleep near my cot! Thereafter, so many other dogs!

What is having a pet like?

It is like nothing what a human can provide! Anyone with a pet will say so too! They are the best source of comfort, therapy, love, companionship... just everything!

What is bath time like – Love it or hate it or a mix of both? Do explain.

Oh My Gosh! Drama! Harley HATES it! He behaves as though I am taking him to slaughter! Ultimately, when it all ends, I am not sure which one of us has had the bath or looks like the dog! It is much easier taking him to the Dog Wash – but that too – Harin has to get in to the tub with him and then get out and shut the door! Such drama! But in the end for just $10 (and less drama than a home bath) he comes out looking and smelling ‘divine’ after a warm shampoo and blow dry!

How does your pet react when you head out of the house and when you get back home?

Oh boy! More drama!  Some days my son has had to hold him till the gate closes and then scale the wall to get out and join us in the car! Some days before the gate closes Harley is on the road. Some days he is already in the car! On most outings we take him along and he is so quiet in the car. If we have had to leave him at home, when we return he greets us with so much ‘talking/scolding’ and excitement!

Could you imagine life without Harley?

NO!!! Oh my gosh! NO!!!

What is the most precious moment you share with Harley?

Our ‘alone time’ at the beach.  It is just a short walk from home so we go daily and walk for miles right up to the rocks and back. During the winter, there are times when nobody is on the beach except Harley and me! We sit on the sand, Harley snuggled up close to me, my arm around him, the strong winds blowing through his fur, his ears ‘flying, we watch the waves in silence... Bliss! Love!

Harley seems like a lovely dog. So beautiful and loving. His mum priyanthi obviously is taking very good care of him. I'm also a doggy mum and I understand all the very interesting Quirks of dogs. Specially the Labrador breed. They're more like children than dogs. Big hug to Harley.xxxxxx
