If you’re someone who wants to work out before your perfect day and hitting the gym just seems a little too tedious, try working it off with Dharshan, a USA Certified Zumba Instructor! 
 
Tell us a little bit about you and what you do. 
 
My passion for sports and fitness which has existed since my childhood together with my interest for Latin dancing was still alive within me. Therefore I started conducting ‘cardio-dance’ sessions bringing together my knowledge in exercise and dancing, whenever I was free. I then got certified in Zumba. So I came back to introduce ZUMBA as the first Sri Lankan to be a U.S. Certified ZUMBA Instructor. The demand for my ZUMBA Sessions sky-rocketed while I kept improvising and adding my own flavour to the various work-out programs that I devised! I started conducting classes at three locations and I now having a student base of over 4000. Further I was the Brand Ambassador for A. Baurs & Co., representing Zwicky Muesli through the years 2013 and 2014 and I am looking forward to work with Unilever Sri Lanka as the Brand Ambassador for Lipton Green Tea. 
 
We hear that you have a routine specifically for soon to be brides! What’s it all about? 
 
 
Yes, we have 2 ‘Sexy Bride’ programmes. One is a 90 day programme to lose up to 18-22kg and the other is a 60 day programme to lose up to 12 – 16 kg.  A lot of brides want to lose weight or tone up before their wedding day. What exactly does it mean to ‘get into shape’ before the wedding? 
 
Nowadays everybody wants to get fit and healthy but when it comes to a wedding it’s all about trying to be perfect in every angle like getting into shape and trying to fit into clothes. 
 
What are the main areas of the body you should focus on and why? 
 
Bride - belly fat, armpit fat, and face and neck. 
Groom - sport belly fat and face and neck. 
 
What’s the timeline for getting fit? 
 
Best time period is 3 months. Anyone more than 100kg looking to get fit should start before 3 months and anyone less than 70kg should start before 3 months. 
 
 
 
Why is doing a zumba fitness routine better than just hitting the gym? 
 
Gym people get very bored easily because it takes a long time to finish a workout like 45 minutes or an hour. Zumba is better because; 
 
1. Weight Loss - This extremely fun workout incorporates a lot of routines that will improve your cardiovascular system, which is extremely helpful in your fight to lose that unwanted weight. Also, the average person will burn around 600 to 1000 calories in a Zumba class. 
 
2. Body Toning - During a Zumba class, you are supposed to move your body to the rhythm of the music, your muscles will be engaged to make some specific moves like squats and twists, thus allowing you to tone your entire body without even realizing it. 
 
3. It's Upbeat and Fun - If you like music, you’ll surely enjoy this type of workout and you’ll surely love the upbeat and energetic atmosphere in your Zumba class. You won’t even know when all that time has passed! 
 
What kind of food should the bride/groom avoid? 
 
· Any snack that only contains carbs (When you eat crackers, dry cereal, bread, or rice cakes alone, your body converts the carbs to simple sugars, and sends it directly into your blood stream) 
 
· Artificially sweetened drinks and sodas 
 
· Frozen meals 
 
· Processed food 
 
· Sugar
