The HSBC Galle Literary Festival will take place in 2014 with a host of renowned writers, authors, historians, poets and biographers both global and local.
In its very first year, the festival was voted ‘No.1 Literary Festival in the World’ by Harper’s Bazaar(UK). Last year, the Orange and Commonwealth Prize winning author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie described the festival as “one of the best literary festivals I have been to. The country is beautiful, the people are warm, and there was something vital and meaningful about the events and the exchange of ideas."
The Founder of the Galle Literary Festival, Geoffrey Dobbs stated “We wish to advise all friends of the Galle Literary Festival, that we have decided to take a break in 2013. However we are pleased to announce that the HSBC Galle Literary Festival will take place in 2014. Our intention to move the event by one year was to make it even better for its patrons and to bring forth a list of participants visiting from all over the globe as well as closer to home. We thank our title sponsor HSBC and all other sponsors and festival enthusiasts for continuing to help build GLF as an event that is much sought after in the international literary circuit.”
The organizing committee promises yet another outstanding event that will showcase the biggest names in the literary circuit as well as continue to feature its much loved readings, tea and poetry series, gourmet lunches and dinners, lunchtime concerts and much more in 2014. As Michael Morpurgo said “It is the most companionable of all festivals.”
