Organised by the Board of Trustees of CSDB, and Saskia Fernando Gallery and proudly sponsored by Land Rover, Nations Trust Bank, Joseph Louis, and Favourite, this event will raise funds for this worthy cause.
Both artists and art collectors have graciously donated and the exhibition will feature works by Stanley Kirinde, Ivan Peries, Nelun Harasgama, George Beven, Basil Cooray, Sanjeewa Kumara, Sujeewa Kumari, Saskia Pintelon, Anoma Wijewardene, Anoli Perera, Marie Alles Fernando, Prageeth Manohansa, Dila Weerasinghe, Suni Nirmalingam and Nihal Fernando.
The Ceylon School for the Deaf & Blind, an approved charity, is over one hundred years old and has under its purview three residential schools: the School for the Blind, the School for the Deaf at Ratmalana and Nuffield School for the Deaf & Blind at Kaithady Jaffna. The total student population in the three schools combined is approximately 570.
Almost all the students are from impoverished homes and cannot afford to pay any fees. Accordingly they are not levied any fees for tuition, hostel accommodation and other facilities. Whilst the State provides limited funding, the Resource Development Committee (RDC) - the fundraising arm of the Ceylon School raises the major component needs for the school. The total funding requirement for the three schools in the year 2014 is approximately Rs.108 million, which works out to about Rs.120,000/- per student, after factoring in the State grants.
Works from the fundraiser will be exhibited from 8th to 10th October 2014 at Saskia Fernando Gallery, 41 Horton Place, Colombo 7. OPEN DAILY 10am to 7pm. TEL 0117429010.
