First launched in 1965, The Blue Lagoon, Talahena opened the door for the tourism industry as it exists today; being the brainchild of G.E.B. Milheusen and designed by Geoffrey Bawa, now immortalized as Sri Lanka’s master architect.
Jetwing took over the abandoned property in 2009, and initial plans were to demolish and rebuild from scratch. However, the influence of Bawa was not easily ignored; Jetwing set about to conserve and re-create the master’s vision.
Using the knowledge of acclaimed Bawa expert David Robson, as well as Bawa’s disciple Vinod Jayasinghe, the original pavilion concept was expanded using ideas originally intended for an unbuilt hotel in Bali. A number of features have been retained; as well as the addition of a 100m pool, the longest in the West Coast.
The inimitable architectural style of Geoffrey Bawa is now enhanced by new touches of modernity to create a harmonious blend of grace and comfort at every turn. Earthy tones of brown, both dark and light, contrast with the sharp brilliant whites of soft linen yet create a soothing sense of tranquility.
The peaceful views of the ocean, the pool or lagoon from every room, adds to the serene ambience. The interior design places much importance to Bawa’s ideals of space, with spacious living areas and bathrooms a staple in all rooms.
The Family Rooms are perfect for a getaway with loved ones, adding a touch of home, with the Suites a study in elegance and sumptuous comfort: ideal for celebration and a testament to high living.
