Moist cakes always have my heart and digging into Dimple Daryanani’s array of cakes which taste as good as they looked couldn’t have made me happier. Using the base of the recipes her mum and grandmother have used over the years she has tweaked them and come up with some glorious goodies.
Out of the cakes we tasted one thing stood out, the use of less sugar, which was welcome. The fact that most of the core ingredients are imported also make a huge difference to the end product.
Taste and value for money – 4.5 stars
The name of her business is Dimplicious and out of the cakes we tried out my favourite was the Oh My Nutella!! Cake (Rs 4,000 – 1.5kg and Rs 5,000 – 2kg). The name of the cake is apt for the amount of Nutella that goes in it, which is definitely A LOT! You can taste it in every bite and it is magnificent. The cake is sandwiched with a generous layer of Nutella mousse and topped with a Nutella ganache and two Ferrero Rochers. This baby will have you in love at first bite.
Our next preference was the Streaky Strawberry (Rs 3,000 – 1.5kg). The base of this light yet moist cake is vanilla, while she uses fresh strawberry pulp to give it that stunning real strawberry flavour. The cake is sandwiches and topped with fresh cream while thinly slices strawberries adorn the cake.
We also loved the Dimplicious Carrot Cake (Rs 3,000 – 8”) which was moist, full of walnuts and topped with a cream cheese frosting – One of the best carrot cakes we have had in a long time.
Dimplicious also has a range of boozy cakes. We tried the Jamaican Rum Cake (Rs 350 – per 125g mini cake, Rs 2,500 750g, Rs 4,000 – 1.5kg) which is made in the form of a Bundt cake. We tasted the mini cakes which were not lacking in flavour or rum. I tried it both warm and cold but enjoyed the chilled version better.
Mint in cakes or in any form really don’t tickle my fancy but I must admit that the Candy Cane After-8 Cake (Rs 2,800 – 1.5kg) was quite enjoyable. The flavour of mint was not overpowering which is key to any mint cake as far as I am concerned. My least preferred however was the Flourless Chocolate Orange Cake (Rs 2,500 – 1kg). This heart smart chocolate cake made with a base of powdered almonds was absolutely moist while the intense chocolate flavour came out, it was just the orange that didn’t work for me.
She also creates cute Cupcake Bouquets (Rs 2,500 – 28 mini cupcakes and Rs 3,500 – 40 mini cupcakes) which can be customised as per what the customer requires in terms of colour and flavour (chocolate, vanilla or coffee).
Note: Dimple requests that order be placed between two to three days and sometimes between three to four days in advance depending on the cake.
