“Love knows no Season’ sang the famous choir “The Revelations” heralding the Christmas Season. It was followed by a Gospel Number harmonised by the choir with the words,
“Look up children,
There’s a star in the sky...”
They were the precursor to the hilarious comedy directed by Jith Pieris titled “Dashing Through the Snow...in a one horse open sleigh”.
The show was on Saturday, 29th November 2014 at the Bishop’s College auditorium. The play was set in Tinsel Town Texas and the action took place at the Snowflake Manor. The actors played out their drama in the morning, the late afternoon and in the evening of the same day.
Viranthi Cooray as Trina Walcott the flustered innkeeper gave a creditable performance as she coped with her eccentric house guests at the best hotel in town. The feuding aunts also acted well and provided much entertainment as they revealed their animosity towards each other. George and his sister Mary Jo raised many laughs as they tried to patch up the long-standing quarrel between their two aunts.
Danu and Nicola were also satisfactory as Ainsley and Lenora, two touring actors involved in producing the play “A Christmas Carol” with a lower than low budget. There is also romance in the air with love between Mrs.Santa Claus and one of Santa’s elves. There is much enjoyment with Roshane as Mr. Nixon the demanding house guest and a drunken housekeeper Lou Ida turning boisterous.
The play was short but it was a good beginning for the Christmas season.
