Dancesport 2015 Wows Audience
The resplendent evening pulsated with the collective energy and excitement of the dancers and dance enthusiasts gathered at the Hilton Colombo for the annual Dancesport championship on the 1st of November.
The glittering costumes, lithe dancers and undeniable talent stole the show as the competitors took to the floor. Dance was truly the focus though, as contestants proved their flair and technique in a myriad of genres such as Viennese, tango, waltz, foxtrot, rumba, jive and the cha cha. The show stopping special performance by the events adjudicators and World Show Dance Championships runners up from Switzerland, Sven Ninnemann & Nina Uszkureit was the icing on the perfectly delectable cake, as the audience looked on in awe.
The well-organized event had everyone buzzing with collective appreciation long after the show was over, and audiences happily mingled with contestants and performers.
Amidst the excitement, we caught up with some of the winners, performers and audience members who weighed in on the show.
Jolene and Peitro (Winners - Amateur Rising Star)
We just enjoyed everything. It was very well organized. We're very happy to have won as well. We love Sri Lanka - the people here are really very friendly.
Hashani and Chamara (Winners - Pre Amateur Rising Star)
We had less time to practice, so we’re really glad we won our category. It was a great opportunity - We’re competing after 2 years.
Sven and Nina (Adjudicators)
It was a perfect experience. There was great talent. It’s our first time in Sri Lanka and even in the region. We're looking forward to exploring Sri Lanka and we already have a few places planned. And we also love the food here!

Always been a fan of dance. So happy to witness this event because it’s our way of saying we care about dancing in Sri Lanka. It was an amazing evening. Dharshan has done his footwork again.
