“Kinnaree” which means Mermaid in Thai is a word and symbol of great importance to the people of Thailand. The Mermaid signals that you are welcome to a house or place.
Hidden in a corner of Chatham Street, lies a restaurant that is relatively new to the Colombo food circuit. Although the restaurant is new the people behind it are no strangers to the world of hospitality. The owners of Siam house, not wanting to open another Siam house, decided to launch “Kinnaree” a restaurant that specialises in contemporary Thai Cuisine.
Manager Roshan Rawdin says Chef Sanjaya Dhammika’s Signature dish is the “Green Pier” - an extremely spicy serving of fish accompanied by Rice and Vegetables.
Thai food is generally spicy and Kinnaree is certainly not the place for you if you can’t handle food that will make your mouth sting!
Starters include delicacies such as the Steamed Wonton, Prawn cutlets, Thai crispy rolls and many more. Salads include mouth watering delicacies such as The Spicy Mango salad, Spicy secret garden, and Thai som tum.
The business lunch comprises
A soup (bound to set your tongue on fire) accompanied with garlic bread.

Thai curry (beef/pork/fish/chicken)
Iced tea
The food on a whole can be given quite a good rating although sadly the same cannot be said for the ambience of the place. Watch your step while climbing the stairs as you could get your foot stuck and end up tripping. The ambience of the restaurant could be better.
A Thai restaurant is supposed to make you feel like you are actually sitting at a restaurant in Thailand, however the choice of music played at the venue along with the seating arrangements make you feel like you’re at a fine dining place, instead. The windows and the entrance nevertheless add to the ambience.
