Having fallen in love with the Southern coast on our previous holidays, we picked ‘Tangalle’ in the hope of finding a new beach destination.

Approaching the end of the first additional holiday free month on the Sri Lankan calendar, we were ecstatic to arrive in Tangalle (78kms , 1 hour 17mins from Galle ) for a faultless romantic escapade with plenty of incentives to return again and again.

‘Coco Tangalla’ is a holiday paradise which is set enchantingly by the Tangalle road with the Indian Ocean set in the backdrop. The villa’s strikingly stylish yet simple white walls, black furniture with flashes of bright colour are a treat to your senses.

The tastefully executed colonial architecture blended with the contemporary interior, felt unobtrusive and exotic at the same time.

Our suite was chic and comfortable, complete with a simple balcony and endless views of the sun and sea.

The bathroom was well equipped with amenities including the fragrant shampoo, conditioner and body wash (cinnamon, milk & toffee flavours) which I fell in love with instantly.

Before we treated ourselves to the ‘COCO TANGALLA’ indulgences, we were serenaded to the spacious lounge which sits alongside the main house, furnished with both sleek and cushiony furniture, period antiques.

You could lounge here for sheer comfort, conversations, for the most delicious impromptu nourishment, for relaxing music, or just simply  with or without an agenda.

We were amazed by the romantic meals put together for us. Dinner was a simple three course menu which perfectly suited our palette and lived up to the true meaning of ‘quality on a plate.’

For dinner, the tantalizing ‘Coconut Semifreddo’ was an instant favourite with an explosion of flavours including Coconut, Cinnamon and Pandon, concocted with heavy cream.

Facilities

There is a wealth of facilities at this villa, although you may just want to lounge by the pool or laze on the beach the whole time.
It is not recommended to swim in the sea on the adjacent small beach, but you could walk a few yards to some good beaches
nearby.

Pool

The swimming pool is located just a few steps below the main house overlooking the Indian Ocean. You  can order a refreshing cocktail and lounge on the bright blue sunbeds while catching up on some reading.

The large ambalama sits alongside the house, with spectacular sea views. And I just lounged there, basking in the moment of peace and quiet.

Wellness

If you’re up for a soothing massage, the villa offers a variety of therapies and wellness techniques. Treatments include Ayurvedic massage with healing oils, body scrubs with locally-grown herbs to Thai massage for your body and Indian massage for your head. All techniques can be blended or not to suit your personal needs.

To Enjoy Together
  • A romantic dinner
  • Dip in the pool
  • Massage Treatments

According to the hotel folks, you could opt to book a room or the whole house, if you’re looking for a serene private vacation. That’s not all, the location is central to a variety of wildlife, cultural and heritage destinations that are situated very conveniently to explore.

The Must Sees

If you are a wildlife enthusiast, the Yala National Park is just around the corner (1 hour). You could also head to the Uda Walawe reserve for elephants and migrating birds (1 hour, 20 minutes).

Visit the Turtle Conservation Area at Rekawa by night, to be enthralled as turtles arrive to lay their eggs. We were told a bunch of turtle eggs were laid just outside the hotel.

The blowhole at Kudawella  and the Buddhist temple complex built into the mountain at ‘Mulgirigala’ are just 10 minutes away.
The Yala National Park and Bundala Bird Sanctuary are also within striking distance.

Or just hop in a a tuk-tuk to the fishing town of Tangalle. Its bustling market and harbour offer a sneak peek into the lifestyle of Tangalle.
