“I am a chocolate fan and I get excited with anything related to chocolate!” Dionne Weeraratne quips. Dionne is the chirpy chocolate and bake enthusiast behind Chocomazing, one of the latest options in town for delicious chocolaty treats.
Taste and Value for Money – 5 stars
Dionne launched her Facebook page on September 29, 2015 but has been baking for ages. Her delightful repertoire made using locally sourced ingredients include Brownies, Chocolate Biscuit Pudding, Fudge which she calls Choc-o-shock and Mini Chocolate Cookies.
“The chocolate biscuit pudding we made during Home Science in school was way too sweet for my liking so I made it a point that when I started doing this I would make it far less sweet and way more chocolaty,” Dionne says of her yummy version of this Sri Lankan dessert staple. She doesn’t use nuts in her version because she doesn’t like them but says she can add it if anyone requests for it.
Her Chocolate Biscuit Pudding (minimum order of 25 cups sold at Rs 100 each without fudge and Rs 110 each with fudge) is one of the best I have indulged in. The fudge version is pretty rich and that one cup is more than enough of an indulgence! If you need it done in a larger quantity however, she is more than willing to oblige.
“My friend Manesha Peiris (the owner of Délicieux) introduced brownies to us in school and she has been pushing me to do this for quite some time,” Dionne says adding that she will not get into baking cakes and will only stick to brownies, chocolate biscuit pudding, fudge and chocolate cookies.
Chocomazing Brownies (minimum of 20 brownies sold at Rs 80 per square which are 2x2 ½” in size) are the ultimate fudge brownies. They are oh so gooey with a perfect crust and not sickly sweet in the least. It is all about the chocolate with these brownies.
The Mini Chocolate Cookies (Rs 40 – Rs 50 per batch of 20) are soft cookies with a chunk of chocolate in the middle. It was soft but not chewy (which is generally my preference) but the chocolate chunk in the middle was a lovely surprise.
I cannot end this review without mentioning her stunning and rich Fudge or as she likes to call it “Choc-o-shock” (a batch of Fudge in any shape is between Rs 1,000 – Rs 1,200). These intense chocolaty babies have been the best thing to hit my taste buds in a long time.
Note: She needs between two to three days notice for her orders.
