Colombo Fashion Week Conducts ‘CFW Day’ at Raffles
Colombo Fashion Week (HSBC CFW) the backbone of Sri Lanka’s fashion design industry, continues its ongoing endeavour to build promising young fashion design talent in the country with its CFW Day. The CFW team recently hosted its second CFW Day at Raffles Colombo, one of Sri Lanka’s leading Art & Design schools.
Commenting on this initiative, Ajai Vir Singh, President, Colombo Fashion Week stated: "CFW is single-mindedly focused on enhancing the Sri Lankan fashion design industry. We have always felt the need to invest more in young talent and we personally take young people through real life experiences in the marketplace. We are very excited about CFW days and BrightSpark shows. With God’s grace, the Sri Lankan talent pool will increase with this project as we expose young designers to more skills and experts from the industry."
Commenting on the importance of CFW Day, Stephen Rawlinson, College Director, Raffles Design Institute, Colombo stated, “Events such as CFW Day are essential for our students as they provide them with the opportunity to fully understand the nexus between theory and practice. Their futures, their careers and the ongoing development of the fashion design industry in Sri Lanka and overseas are ultimately in their own hands. This event and ones like it add a lot to creating real life, enjoyable learning experiences for our students.”
Last year Colombo Fashion Week developed CFW Day to expose fashion students to the various aspects of the fashion industry. The first CFW day was held at the University of Moratuwa in December 2013. Colombo Fashion Week has created a calendar specifically aimed at grooming and nurturing Sri Lanka’s future fashion designers and the country’s design potential at large.
