Ikebana International Sri Lanka chapter will be holding its second exhibition on the 9th and 10th of June from 11am to 7pm at the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management, 78 Galle Road Colombo 03.
Ikebana International was first founded in Japan in 1956 and now counts a membership of over 10 000.With its motto of promoting “friendship through flower”, the organization encourages the practice of this very disciplined art form where emphasis is given to other areas of the plant such as it stems, leaves, shape, lines etc…
The spiritual aspect of Ikebana is also an important characteristic of this art where nature and humanity are joined together. Carried out in silence, Ikebana brings to its practitioner an inner sense of patience and tolerance which takes away the anxiety of day to day life.
Sri Lanka’s chapter which has an ever growing membership focuses mainly on promoting the art of Ikebana in the country without forgetting its principles and philosophy. Part of the proceeds from this exhibition will go to the charity ‘Children with cancer’.
There will be 70 to 80 arrangements on display and the Chief Guest and patron will be the Ambassador to Japan in Sri Lanka H.E Nobuhito Hobo.
On the 9th at 5pm, those present will have the pleasure of watching a demonstration by master demonstrator in Sogetsu Ikebana, Mr. Christopher Lim.
