Taj Samudra will be hosting a Bangladeshi Food Festival from 2 to 12 April at the Latitude restaurant, which is jointly organised by the Bangladeshi High Commission. There were many dignitaries present for the inauguration ceremony held on 2 February, including Bangladeshi High Commissioner His Excellency Mohammad Saifur Rahman, and honorable ministers - AHM Fawzi and DEW Gunasekara, Indian High Commissioner HE YK Sinha and many other distinguished guests.

Speaking of the cuisine, HE Rahman mentioned that the food was lighter on the palette in comparison to Sri Lankan cuisine. He elaborated that coconut milk was not used much in the cuisine from Bangladesh. He thanked the team from the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka including the three chefs who flew in from Bangladesh specifically for the Food Festival. He also appreciated Area Director and General Manager of Taj Samudra, Mr. Rohit Khosla and his team for hosting the event.

Bangladeshi cuisine is a culinary art-form. The cuisine consists of a tantalising blend of wonderful and fragrant spices that will keep you coming back for more.

The “hilsha” fish was specially flown in from Bangladesh, since it is considered to be the national fish, and only served for dignitaries and heads of state. The hilsha fish were carefully deboned which was a feat by itself, considering that it takes trained hands to complete this task. The appetiser consisting of smoked hilsha that is a part of this festival is indeed a heavenly treat.

As for the main course, the rice that was served was the Kachchi Biriyani, which is a special biriyani that is once again reserved for the serving of dignitaries. This rice is cooked in a special manner using mutton and traditional spices. It was a treat for all the guests present.

A traditional dessert – the Patishapta, which is a delicious crepe made from rice rolled up with a rich filling of cream was a scrumptious delicacy for those with a sweet tooth.
Come to Latitude and taste the delightful spread fit for ‘royalty’ at the Bangladeshi Food Festival held at Taj Samudra, Colombo.
