My one year old Cocker-spaniel is frequently suffering from mild forms of tick fever and suffers from loss of appetite, discolouring around the eyes and becomes very subdued for such an active dog. I’ve heard that this is quite common for dogs of this particular breed but what are the current available remedies to keep my dog healthy?

Tick fever is a common phenomenon that most dog owners generally face regardless of the dog breed. This is a disease transferred through ticks and though the dog is temporary relieved from fever arising from ticks, the organism may on live in their systems. As the dog is exposed to ticks time and again, it will trigger the fever to come in to force. Loss of appetite and discolouring around the eyes are common symptoms of tick fever and these must be treated immediately before the disease aggravates. Currently available remedies will depend on the breed of the dog, age and other determinants and the most common form of treatment your vet might undertake will be a liquid that can be applied on the back of the dog. This will not be absorbed to the skin and is a generally safe procedure with no side effects.
