We’re hoping to neuter our 3 year old male Daschund. We’re a bit concerned since our previous dog, a female Daschund that has not mated suffered a womb infection and ran in to various complications including her back legs being paralyzed beyond repair. Hence, could neutering be the most viable, safe option for a dog that will not mate?
Yes, it is advisable to neuter a dog that will not mate. It’s a completely safe procedure which ought to be taken before the dog attains old age but clearly should only be performed after the dog reaches sexual maturity. Dogs that have mated suffer from womb related and various similar ill fates as well. Since your dog is three years old, this would be an appropriate age to neuter him as it is impossible to tame their sexual urges at any stage.
