Ever wanted to spend a few days in the sky? And by that I do not mean air travel because those flights can literary be a pain in the neck!
What I mean is to live up on a mountain top surrounded by a magnificent view of the historical city of Kandy.
Add to that the cool breeze coming from the mountains as you breathe in unpolluted air. It certainly is your perfect getaway right?
Boutique hotels are something that many tourists are looking out for now and quite a few of them have sprung up like mushrooms in all major tourist destinations across the island.
However nestled on a mountain high up in the hills of Kandy lies one particular boutique hotel that is a new entrant to the market but has all the makings of five star quality.
Amaara Sky is run by World Link, a company that has been established for almost 22 years and is more than experienced when it comes to making sure that customers experience Sri Lanka like a land truly like no other.
The property is set on prime land in the picturesque mountains of Kandy and boasts of 12 distinctly spacious rooms including one suite and a penthouse. All these rooms come with an abundantly stocked mini bar and a TV.
However in the case of the two storied penthouse you get two televisions. The rooms are clean as clean can get and even the bedding smells fresh, one can be assured of a good night’s sleep as the pillows and mattresses ensure that the user wakes up feeling fresh and very much alive.
The view from the Penthouse is simply fairytale like. Enjoy watching the sunset behind the mountains and the valley from the spacious balcony while enjoying a hot cup of coffee or tea and on the other side of the room a brilliant view of the city that is better known as the last capital city of the ancient Kings of Sri Lanka.
This view spans over the Asgiriya stadium, The Dalada Maligawa and the picturesque Kandy Lake which is mesmerizing to look at during the night once all the lights in the city come up giving one quite literally a bird’s eye view of the city.
Dining at Amaara is a different experience all together; guests have the luxury of choosing what times they wish to have their meals.
Breakfast and dinner can be enjoyed on the terrace while it is more advisable to have lunch at the spacious dining room because the afternoon heat comes glaring down on the terrace making it quite hard for guests to enjoy the delicious food prepared by the Hotel’s chef.
Breakfast on its own is made more interesting if one is lucky to see an Eagle who has made it’s nest in the vicinity of the hotel going about on its morning hunt.
The continental breakfast is a foodie’s haven while the local cuisine could make one's mouth taste each and every spice that is thrown into making it. The a la carte menu for lunch and dinner is limited yet quite sufficient. I would recommend the steak well done for those who love their meat I would definitely give it a rating of 10/10.
As for setbacks the hotel does not have a pool just yet but I was told that the land adjourning the hotel is currently in the process of being bought to make way for a pool.
And that brings me to another point before going to Kandy, I read up reviews on the hotel on trip advisor and all the comments made had spoken nothing ill of the hotel except for small amenities that were missing, however to my surprise all these requests had been attended to which indicates that the management is bent on customer satisfaction and is engaged in maintaining the statement 'The Customer is King'
Last but definitely not the least one must comment on the service, almost all members of the staff have had previous experience at other hotels, are a quite fluent in English but more than anything are extremely hospitable not because it is their job and they need to be that way but simply because they want people to enjoy themselves.
The staff go to extremes to make requests of guests accommodated. I myself had a few requests that they tended to and this was not because I was from the media. Speaking to some of the other guests at the hotel they all had the same to say.
All in all Amaara Sky is certainly a home away from home and is one of those places that makes guests want to return again and again or as a matter of fact never leave!

Myriam and Florent Feltrin - We like it very much here, the hotel is clean and it was unlike any other hotel we visited. The attention given to us by the staff was very personal. The food was excellent and even the presentation was brilliant. As for the ambiance it was fantastic “Chic” as we say in france. We hoped there will be a swimming pool though.
