A Day Out with the Speed Freaks - CMSC-UE Sports Karting Championship 2013

It was time for some sporting action with a close bunch of friends last weekend. It was a day out with the speed freaks at the phenomenal Sri Lanka Karting Circuit in Bandaragama for the CMSC-UE Sports Karting Championship 2013.

UE Motor Sports together with Sri Lanka's Oldest Motor Sport Club teamed up to present Sri Lankan Karting Fans an electrifying Go Karting Racing Championship.

The SLKC Bandaragama has been open to Karting fans since March 2013 and is the only karting facility in Sri Lanka built to international standards and this event was the first event held at the venue.

For a not so huge motorsport fan and having not sat through a single race, watching the live action certainly gave me something to re-think about.

Over the years Go Karting has been considered the kindergarten of motorsport, where young motorsport enthusiasts come to improve their skills and learn the basics of motorsport. It was amazing to watch over 90 Sri Lankan motorsport pros and ambitious amateurs compete to bag the first leg of the Karting Championships.

Sri Lankan motorsport has been on the rise over the past few years, but as history may speak for itself, the sporting talents have been mostly been “older” drivers with plenty of experience and the youngsters were nowhere to be seen.

That’s not all; the event also witnessed two ladies going neck and neck with the gents, it certainly awed most of the fans including myself.

For all the speed fans that missed the action, here’s the list of categories and winners ;
