views 1593Urban Green is a small and beautiful restaurant situated down Unity Place in Colpetty. They are very much quality oriented and try their best to keep the food as healthy as possible. But they also have a lot of options for those who like to go all out and enjoy some good food! All the furniture is made out of recycled wood and the kitchen is a recycled container. The place is inviting and a nice hang out spot.

The staff is friendly and their service is quite quick. The owners who are a husband and wife duo went out of their way to host us and share their story with us. “It is very difficult to get some good food for a reasonable price around this area. So we decided to open this café and we make it a point to serve as many healthy Sri Lankan foods as possible.”

We first tried out some of their beverages. The Iced Tea with Belimal and Orange (Rs. 300) is one of their signature drinks and came recommended to us by them. It was definitely a first for me and quite interesting.
The taste first comes as a surprise to you but then you get used it. Served chilled it tasted quite good. I loved the Lime Juice with Ginger (Rs. 400). Being a big fan of ginger myself I absolutely loved it. We went in the afternoon and this drink was perfectly refreshing for a hot day.
They also serve a variety of hot drinks, so we tried their Coffee Latte (Rs. 450). The coffee was not too strong but we liked it.
For our starters we were served with Mushroom on Toast (Rs. 40 each). The mushroom was delicious but the toast was not as crispy as we would have liked it.
We also ordered a Tuna Sandwich (Rs. 450) which was absolutely delicious! You can pick the kind of bread you like. We went for a healthier option and chose kurakkan and it was absolutely delicious. It was my favourite dish from all that we tried.
Their Chicken Rice and Curry (Rs. 250) is the most fast moving item on the list so we decided to give it a try. All the curries were delicious and it was definitely worth the price. The place gets very busy during the lunch hour.
We also tried their Chicken Biryani (Rs. 450) which was spicy and delicious. Both rice dishes were served on a lotus leaf that added to the flavour of the dish. For those who don’t like rice there are pasta options as well.
We also tried their Chicken Pasta (Rs. 380) served with a white sauce and lots of cheese and it was tasty and very filling.
For dessert we tried their Brownie with Ice Cream (Rs. 300) and their Cream Caramel (Rs. 200) The brownie was dry and quite hard, had it been warmed a little it would have tasted better, but the cream caramel was nice and tasty.

Apart from this Urban Green also has an extensive breakfast and dinner menu. For breakfast they serve Kola Kanda and promise to serve a different kind every day. They also have healthy options like green gram, chick peas and milk rice. But it is their dinner menu that really caught our eye. They serve cheese hoppers (again a first for me), prawn hoppers and cheese rotti and a whole lot more! I will definitely be making a visit for dinner soon.
Open only for a month thus far the restaurant is settling in and still experimenting and finding its pace. They are open on weekdays from 6:30AM to 10:30PM and weekends from 7:30AM to 10:30PM.
