Just over a month ago, Tori Café was opened by a husband and wife duo. Their love for food, for people and for each other embraces everyone who walks in. Located down Siebel Avenue, it is the perfect place to go and enjoy a cup of coffee or sit down for a hearty meal.

“It has always been one of my dreams to open a café,” said Samantha Gunesekera speaking to Life Online. She is also a brave cancer survivor who isn’t afraid to share her story. “It was only when I got very sick that I decided that it was high time to pursue my dreams. I also want it to be an inspiration to others. I chose to fight back and I never gave up. Today my dream has become a reality.”

Customer Service - 5/5

Husband Gamini Perera and his team ensures that the café serves quality food. They also take very good care of their customers. They already boast of regulars, some who visit the café every day for at least one meal.

Food and Value for Money – 5/5

We first tried a Cappuccino (Rs.300) and Latte (Rs.300). The coffee was good and you get delicious cupcakes (Rs.130) and éclairs (Rs.40) to accompany your coffee and satisfy your sweet cravings.

We then ordered their Potato and Leek soup (Rs.225). This was my favourite dish. It was extremely delicious, served warm and the portion was quite big as well.

For our main course, we ordered a Grilled Chicken with a Salad (Rs.580) and a Chicken Rice and Curry (Rs.200). The grilled chicken and mash potato was really good and the rice and curry was very spicy and filling. There were many customers who walked in to have or take away their lunch.

For dessert, we tried their Cream Caramel (Rs.120) which was quite tasty as well.

Ambience - 4.5/5

Adjoining the café, there is also a boutique with various vintage decorative items. They are trying to promote locally produced items such as rag dolls, candles etc. They also have beautiful gift items that are unavailable around Colombo at a very decent price. Together with the gift shop and warm interior, Tori café is welcoming and filled with positive vibes. We only wish it was bigger!

Parking and other facilities – 4/5

The café is Halal certified and can hold up to 26 people. You can even book the café to have small parties. They are open from 7.30 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. every day and anything on the menu can be ordered anytime of the day. They also cater for functions and are currently trying to promote Haiti spreads. The café itself has parking space only for 2 vehicles, but parking alongside the road isn’t a problem either.

Head down to Tori Café and enjoy their delicious food and great atmosphere. You can contact them on 011 4848398 for reservations and orders or check out their Facebook page for more details.
