You walk into what is a showroom of sorts which displays a varied number of Ceylon tea sourced mainly from the Nahinigala Tea Factory. We had a quick chat with Chamara Udugama, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, TeaTalk who explained to us that all the teas served at their tea house are from his own estate while they do not use any chemicals in their produce as he believes that sustainable agriculture is vital in order to give back to the environment which gives us so much.
Taste – 3.5 stars and Value for money – 4 stars
The thing about TeaTalk is that it is essentially all about the teas at the moment. In terms of food the menu is basic and Chamara would like to leave it this way so as to be able to maintain consistency at all times. In fact both times we visited the tea house the sandwiches we tried were spot on. The breads were soft and not dry while the fillings were more than adequate.
The paninis at TeaTalk are priced between Rs 300 to 350 and range from Ham, Prawn, Tuna and even Strawberry and Chocolate. We tried the Ham Panini which had an abundance of chicken ham, iceberg lettuce, cheese, tomato, cucumber, pickled gherkin and a hint of white pepper, which left us pretty full. They also serve Eclairs (Rs 120 each) and Brownies (Rs 160 each). These we felt, were a little on the dry side.
The star among what they serve are definitely their teas which were spot on. Brewed to perfection they were simply amazing. We tried their Earl Grey and Red Pepper Ice Tea (Rs 150) which was splendid. While their usual Black Tea (Rs 100 for the first cup and free refills) are also perfect. Another refreshing and delicious option is their Tea Shake (Rs 200).
Ambience – 5 stars
The spotless premises, sleek tables and trendy railway sleepers used as tables and chairs in the outdoor area make this one neat spot to relax and unwind.
Friendly staff – 5 stars
The staff, are the real winners here as they are extremely courteous and friendly and they sure know how to brew a good cuppa and serve up a decent sandwich.
Parking - 4.5 stars
It is generally convenient as we parked with ease on both visits.
Toilets – 3 stars
Don’t get me wrong, the toilets itself were extremely clean, had toilet paper and even a bidet shower but it was the lack of a sink to wash your hands that was the let down. The outside dining area however, has a sink where you can wash your hands.
