views 1420Tea Avenue is a tea café located at Barnes Place that has become a popular spot for a business meeting or a meet up with friends. Recently, they branched out and opened an outlet at the World Trade Center (WTC) so we thought we should check it out.
And here’s what we thought!
Ambience
The new branch at WTC is not as large as their Barnes Place outlet but it’s just as cozy. It’s a small space up on Level 3 but the interior has been done in such a way that once you enter the café, you can escape the busy body atmosphere inside the WTC and unwind for an hour or two.
The Beverages
You can’t dine at a café specializing in tea and not have a cup no matter how appealing their other beverages are, so we ordered a cup of Milk Tea priced at Rs. 350. Even though it’s a little pricey for a cup of milk tea, it does come in a fairly large cup and the tea was well brewed so it was worth a try.
We also tried their Peach Iced Tea at Rs. 450 and their Ferrero Lavish at Rs. 850. I thought their Peach Iced Tea was a treat! It was strong in flavour and had a very cutting taste to it that I really enjoyed.
Their Ferrero Lavish is a sight to behold. It’s one of those drinks that look so good you are a little wary to start drinking it because it might just ruin the whole outlook. The drink is made entirely out of Nutella and chocolate ice cream and is topped off with whipped cream and a Ferrero Rocher on top. It’s definitely a drink made for those with a sweet tooth and a love for anything chocolate.
The Food
We started off with their new sandwich options. We tried their Chicken and Corn sandwich at Rs. 400, their Ham and Cheese Sandwich at Rs. 300 and their Pol Sambola, Egg and Cheese sandwich at Rs. 280. Lightly grilled with a generous amount of melted cheese in each, their sandwiches serve as a nice and light snack. We especially enjoyed the Pol Sambola sandwich for their spicy sambol filling!
We then tried their Salmon Quiche at Rs. 550 and their Chicken Lasagna at Rs. 800. The quiche had a good crust and subtle flavours and the chicken lasagna had a generous amount of filling. But mostly we were impressed with their serving of cheese in both dishes. Most places tend to skimp on the cheese but Tea Avenue gives you your money’s worth with a thick layer of cheese on top of both dishes.
We also had their Creamy Prawn Pasta at Rs. 880 and though the pasta was a bit too sticky for our liking, we thought the portion was filling.
Finally we tried out their most famous and sought after dessert, the Oreo Cheesecake at Rs. 300. The base of the cheesecake is made from Oreo crumble and even on top there is a thin layer of crumble to cut into the smooth consistency of the cheesecake. The cheesecake was not too sweet and had just the right consistency so we can understand why it’s a crowd favourite.
Service
The staff at the WTC Tea Avenue is small but helpful. The two gentlemen who man the counters are quite friendly and greeted us with smiles at every turn. But more than that, they were efficient and helpful so the service gets a good rating from us.
Overall: 4.5/5
They serve a variety of dishes and drinks to cater to whatever you’re in the mood for and their ambience gives you a break from the general hustle bustle inside the WTC.
Open from 7AM - 7PM on weekdays and 7AM - 2PM on Saturdays.
Note: Orders can be placed through WhatsApp (076 969 3577) for deliveries within the WTC.
