There is something truly special about finger food, especially the homemade stuff. The buttery flavours coupled with the memories of parties we would go to as children where these treats were served make biting into finger food quite extraordinary.

Sugar Salt and Sprinkles run by Erasha Hettige makes some of the finest finger food, cupcakes and simple old fashioned brownies. Her repertoire is quite extensive and from the items we tasted I could not fault a single one.

Taste and value for money – 5 stars

Among the sugary range were her soft and moist Salted Caramel Cupcakes (Rs 100 each). The cake was fabulous while the salted caramel buttercream was delightful. I am a sucker for good old simple brownies with no frills and her Chocolate Brownies (Rs 650 – small, Rs 1,500 – large, Rs 80 – 2x2" piece) just hit the spot for me.

She also has a range of desserts both boozy and non boozy and I would definitely recommend her Boozy Chilled Chocolate Soufflé Pot (Rs 150 starting) as well as the Chilled Coffee Soufflé (Rs 150 starting).

With a love for cooking and baking which comes down from her mother she has taken the recipes she loves while also making them her own and creating some interesting finger food of which the Sausage Canapés (Rs 35) are mouth-watering. She uses a delightful mix of spicy minced chicken sausage which has hints of herbs and pipes them onto savoury crackers resulting in you popping one canapé after another!

What can be better than cheese and bacon, nothing much really apart from, well, Cheese and Bacon Cookies (Rs 60). With a hint of heat coming from chilli flakes and a subtle crunch of sea salt sprinkled on top, these cookies are really something super.

We also enjoyed her Sliders (Rs 65 – Beef and Rs 70 – Chicken). Her juicy beef sliders come packed with garlic aioli, sweet chilli sauce and coleslaw. The crunchy coleslaw was a lovely touch as packing in tomato and salad leaves can make the bun soggy and boring while the garlic aioli and sweet chilli sauce add a beautiful depth of flavour to these mini burgers.

And, on to one of my absolute favourites – Egg Boats (Rs 40) – her egg boats have a generous helping of butter and cheese. Can it get any better than this!

Erasha whips up two ‘spirited’ drinks which include a Boozy Iced Coffee (Rs 600 per litre) and her Signature "Pink Cocktail' (Rs 800 per litre). The latter is a blend of local spirits and juice served with mint making it a refreshing drink.

Note:

· Erasha requires at least three days notice for her finger food and about a week’s notice for her themed cakes.

· A minimum of 20 pieces are required for Savouries and Brownies, 12 for Cupcakes and a minimum of a kilo for cakes.
