Spoiler Alert!

If you've ever been a fan of a TV show or a movie, then you've probably had a mortal fear of episodes or movie potholes being spoilt for you. Unless you're me, considering spoilers don't bother me. But for everyone else, it's pretty much the end of the world.

I happened to watch the Sri Lankan preview of Avengers Infinity War on 25 April (spoiler-free review out soon!), and audiences were reminded to keep spoilers to themselves thanks to the #ThanosDemandsYourSilence hashtag.

Not surprising, especially considering that many love to spoil movies with huge mass appeal.

So if, like me, you watched a movie on day 1 or an episode live, then:

- Don't be that person: nothing compares to finding things out as you watch an episode or a movie. The anticipation that builds up to the moment is, after all, the best feeling. This coming from someone who actually doesn't mind spoilers. So keep all the spoilers to yourself.

- Don't post fake spoilers either: it's pretty lame to be honest, and no one thinks you're cool when you do that.

- Discussions are fun in person: catch up with your friends who've watched the episode or movie and discuss spoilers together. It's much more fun. If you REALLY must show off, just post on social media that you watched it. That would suffice. Yes really.

For those of you actively trying to avoid spoilers

- Tweak your social media settings: mute key words on Twitter. Snooze lovers of spoilers on Facebook.

- Stay away: without a doubt, despite all precautions, the occasional spoiler WILL slip through. The only way to avoid them is to stay off social media for a while.

- Watch ASAP: another option you're left with is to actually be up to date with any tv shows you watch and to try catch your favourite movie on day one.
