views 573An evening of classical music and classic rock unveiled at the Viharamahadevi amphitheatre as many legends and amateurs of the industry took to stage. A 24 piece orchestra and the best voices in Western music came together to make Rockestra a reality. Sri Lanka’s rock legend Chitral Somapala pulled off an electrifying opening performance followed by Dylan Manuel, Shane Berenger, Sherry, Kevin Almeida, Russell Fernando, Noeline Honter and Derek Wikramanayake.
Tunes from Pink Floyd to Joe Cocker, Deep Purple and the rock classics of the '70s and '80s entertained the few guests who were present.
A bigger crowd would have been present if not for the prevalent November rain which poured during the period but nevertheless, many fans swayed to the beats and enjoyed the music.
Towards the end of the show some of the guests shared their views with us:
“It’s been a while since I came for an event like this. It’s well organized.” - Nuwan
“The performance I loved the most was ‘November Rain. It was a lovely evening.” - Renuka
“It’s a good concert and if this was done in Europe there would be a packed house. Unfortunately Sri Lanka doesn’t appreciate rock music to the extent that we thought it would be.”- Lucas
“It’s a fantastic event except that it’s not that crowded.” - Mahesha
“It’s always a thrill to see all big names in the industry performing on one stage.” - Ryan
“The music is brilliant but I expected a bigger crowd.” - Delaine
“I looked forward to ‘Chitty’s’ performance. It’s nice to see all artistes on one stage.”- Natalie
“The music is amazing with the orchestra in the background. It’s a very creative concept.” - Kaushi
“The crowd could have given a better feedback. If it was more crowded then there would have been a better connection with the singer.” - Dilini
“I think people didn’t turn up because of the rain. Maybe next time they should have this indoors.” - Danya
“It’s a unique concert and there should be more concerts like this.” - Sahan
“It’s an amazing achievement but people have not appreciated it enough. I would like to congratulate the organisers and they should make it an international event.” - Dilshan
