Growing up, Abugabal wanted to become a doctor like his parents. But that wasn’t enough: After getting his white coat, the oncologist ended up cofounding the International Cancer Research Center. The Cairo-based organization is working with doctors in a variety of specialties to expand cancer survival across the Middle East.
Sajith Wickramasekara
With Benchling, Wickramasekara has created a digital version of every scientist’s Bible: The lab notebook. The system, which counts among its funders Andreessen Horowitz, helps researchers contextualize and collaborate on genome engineering data. Benchling already has thousands of users in both industry and academia.
