Having collaborated with the Consulate of Mexico in Colombo, the Embassy of Mexico in India, Indonesian Embassy in Colombo and The Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo, The Kingsbury hopes to promote good relations between these countries and Sri Lanka via an exchange of delicious cuisine and education on their respective cultures.
“We are quite thrilled that the embassies have chosen The Kingsbury to partner with to host these food festivals. The chefs from all three countries will work alongside The Kingsbury’s Director of Culinary Services and Executive Chef Kithsiri De Silva and promises to serve an excellent range of food for our guests.” explained Mohan Pandithage, Chairman of The Kingsbury and Honorary Consul General to Mexico in Sri Lanka.
Taking on the feat of cooking Mexican cuisine for the food festival is celebrity chef Gabriela Ruiz Lugo, whose specialty lies in contemporary gourmet representations of Mexican cuisine. She will create authentic Mexican fare and curate an a la carte menu, which will be available to guests from September 3 – 11. Additionally, Sky Lounge will be serving a variety of cocktails made with Mexican spirits. The Kingsbury Pool Café will be hosting a Mexican Film Festival starting September 7, screening vintage Mexican films directed by Ismael Rodriguez.
William Wongso will be responsible for Indonesian cuisine from September 15 – 18. Wongso is a celebrity chef, food consultant and food critique whose specialty lies in Asian and European cuisine.
With a focus on seafood, the Thai food festival will take place at The Ocean from September 26 – October 2. Traditional Thai dancers will perform at The Kingsbury from September 23 – 25 during High Tea at the Gourmet Station.
