We spoke with Leena Nanayakkara of Helakamal Wedding Studio about what it’s like to create a wedding album.
Tell us a little about your company.
We are a professional wedding photography and videography company with over 30 years of experience. We are a 7 people team and we have our own colour lab which allows us to give our clients a very fast service.
Why is a wedding album so important?
Because it’s the only thing a couple can keep for a lifetime. The food, the hotel, the cake, the flowers - it will only last for a day and you’ll never see it again. But a wedding album is kept forever and all these temporary things are made eternal by a wedding album.
What goes into making a wedding album?
When the wedding is over, our service is such that the next day itself we can give the proofs to the clients and then it's up to them to select the ones they want and come back to our colour lab. As soon as we get the proofs, we start our creation and start printing. Having our colour lab enables us to even give the prints to our clients in a matter of just 24 hours or 10 days. Our clients don’t have to wait for months.
What kind of different templates do you have for wedding albums?
So the sizes of the albums vary between 8x13 and 12x36. Each one has different structures when it comes to the paper, the lamination or the quality of the picture. Everything is different. The bigger the album, the better the quality. Our most standard size is 12x24 and higher. For close up pictures it's best to use big albums.
What kind of pictures do you include and exclude in the wedding album?
We take portraits, group pictures, outdoor picture etc. The bride and the groom is our first priority so we focus on them the most. We also take the couple with guests and family. There nothing to ‘exclude’ per se. We take over a 1000 shots and the client will select whatever they want.
How soon after their wedding should the couple ideally get their wedding album?
Some customers always complain that other professionals give the album in 7 months or 6 months. Ideally, they should get their album right after the wedding. We like to give our albums in 10 days after they approve the proofs.
What should couples focus on when deciding on their wedding album?
Different customers want different things so we just give them whatever they want.
What’s the one advice you’ll have for couples when choosing their wedding album and selecting the person to do the wedding album?
Get a professional photographer who has the experience, then only she / he knows what to do and what not to.
