Last week I had the pleasure of delving into some of the finest baked goods I had indulged in, in a very long time. The cakes and cookies we tried out were so perfect in terms of texture and flavour while they were not sickeningly sweet. 

Vyomi Latiff is the lady behind these delectable items and her little home bakery is called Gorgeous Cakes and Desserts. 

Vyomi has been creating delicious baked good for around a decade now. What started off as a hobby eventually resulted in studying for an Advanced Diploma in Patisserie at Prima. She says she never messes with the classics and always respects them while simply building on them to add flavours and textures. 

“I worked under an Italian pastry chef in Australia for a few months,” she says adding that her guru was very free with her knowledge therefore giving her the chance to pick up a lot of tips which have been extremely useful. Trying out her baked goods, her passion and skill come through without a doubt and these are easily about some of the best cakes and cookies in town. 

Taste and value for money – 5 stars 

I am going to start off with a few of her cookies. Even though it is a healthier option her Choc Chip Oat Cookies with Nuts (Rs 90) are certainly not short on taste – made with a base of rolled oats and chocolate chips along with chopped nuts to give that added texture and flavour these cookies are truly special. 

I really loved her Citrus Cream Cheese Cookies (Rs 100). These gooey babies with a dreamy centre of cream cheese make my mouth water thinking about them several days later while her Death by Chocolate Cookies (Rs 80) will take you a step closer to chocolate heaven! 

Among her cakes, a must try is her eye catching Red Velvet with Citrus Buttercream and Marshmallow Frosting Cake (Rs 3,000 for 16 servings). I had not had marshmallow frosting in decades and this coupled with the soft red velvet cake which had subtle but delicious hints of citrus was an absolutely stunning combination. 

She also bakes a good Love Cake (Rs 1,400 for a three quarter pound block) and gooey Choc Fudge Brownies (Rs 60 per piece).
