We started off with the Mee Goreng (Rs. 550), which consisted of chicken noodles sprinkled with fried onions and accompanied by a pickle and sambal. The noodles, which are homemade, was well flavoured with the chicken and vegetables adding some texture to it.
The Beef Rendang (Rs. 600) was paired with steamed rice which allowed the well flavoured beef to stand out. The rendang, which is braised in coconut milk with a host of spices and aromatics, easily came apart when poked with a plastic spoon, and was tender and juicy.
We also tried out their Nasi Goreng (Rs. 550), which was chicken fried rice, and we quite liked this.
The Nasi Baker (Rs. 500) is a seafood rice which had that gloriously seafood-y flavour (which may put off those who aren't big on seafood). The prepackaged meal looks pretty unassuming at first, but the taste more than makes up for it.
Their Chicken Satay (Rs. 140 each) was also a win - the freshly grilled succulent chicken with a generous coating of peanut sauce was quite the crowd favourite.
All their mains are paired with pickle and sambal, and they both work great to complement the meal. We felt that the Nasi Goreng and Nasi Baker especially worked best when paired with the pickle and the sambal, which seemed to elevate the flavour. While we loved everything we tried, our favourites were the Mee Goreng, the Beef Rendang and the Chicken Satay.
The service was great - they are very friendly and welcoming, and made it a point to greet and acknowledge everyone who dropped by their stall. They were also happy to answer any questions and offer up suggestions for those unsure of what to try.
The great food, the generous portions and the great service make Far East a place that will likely make your list of eateries to frequent. We absolutely loved the food here and if you're down for a hearty, authentic Indonesian meal prepared with love, Far East Indonesian is the place to go.
Drop by the Far East Indonesian Cuisine stall at the Racecourse Good Market on Saturday for your Indonesian fix. For more information, call them up on 0777578533 or check out their Facebook page.
*We were told that a restaurant was in the works, which is great news, and hopefully means a more elaborate menu.
