Serving an array of North and South Indian cuisine, this is a pleasant and welcoming place to go to with friends or family for a relaxed meal. They actually do a pretty good take on Indian cuisine.
Although there’s a lot of hustle and bustle around when you enter the Galadari, Flavors offers a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. The décor is pretty, with soft bronzy curtains which sets off the very Indian looking interior of the restaurant.

We started off with a Sweet Lassie (Rs. 300) which was delicious, and then we went on to check out some of their most popular dishes.
The Butter Naans (Rs. 220), were just right in terms of texture and thickness. Not too buttery and not dry either.
The succulent Mutton Biriyani (Rs. 900) had a bit of crispy fried onion sprinkled on top and that added to the look and taste.
The meat in the Lamb Rogengosh (Rs. 1100) was tender and the gravy was thick and had a good balance of seasoning and spices. Slightly chillie hot but definitely alright even for someone who doesn’t take too much chillie.
The Garden Fresh Salad (Rs. 350) was indeed fresh and crunchy.
After enjoying the delectable meal we had Gulab Jamuns (Rs. 400) for dessert. There were two Gulabs to a portion and it was super.
The chutneys they served were different to the usual chutneys we are see at all Indian restaurants. The Tomato Chutney was really something. It had good mix of tang, spice and sweetness. The Mango Chutney and the Mint Chutney was also pretty good. They also serve the typical Indian Papadams with most of their rice based dishes.
The newest addition to their menu is the Thali which can be ordered with Chicken (Rs. 600), Mutton (Rs. 850), Prawn (Rs. 700), Fish (Rs. 600) or Vegetarian (Rs. 500). For those of us who are not so familiar with Indian cuisine, Thali is a meal made up of a selection of various dishes. It simply means - a round platter used to serve food. The idea behind a Thali is to offer all the 6 different flavours of sweet, salt, bitter, sour, astringent and spicy on one single plate. In this platter, is a fairly large portion of steamed Basmati rice surrounded by little stainless steel bowls filled with a variety of curries, rasam, a Vadai and a dessert of your choice as well.

The service was excellent, I could say. Everyone who served us was warm and friendly. We had a little chat with Chef Abujahir from India, who is in charge of the kitchen at Flavors. He has been in Sri Lanka and very happy for so long that he has even married a lady from Sri Lanka. We saw that Assistant Manager Waranawita was very hospitable to all the guests present and made sure that everyone was comfortable.

To sum it up, Flavors is an excellent place for a super Indian meal, and when you consider the fact that it’s a restaurant at a star class hotel, the prices are not too bad!
