views 2227The cozy café located in Havelock has now expanded by opening a new branch in Rajagiriya. They now serve everything from delicious pastries to ravioli! The new menu includes a variety of Italian delicacies that you can choose from to enjoy an authentic meal.
Manuela Prugnoli the chef and the face of Dolce Italia calls the restaurant a typical Italian torteria. She also ensures the quality and taste of the food is not compromised. Her son manages the restaurant and serves the dishes to you himself. And the service is the quickest we have experienced from all the places we have visited thus far.
(Friendliness of staff - 4.5/5)
Coffee is something Italians take very seriously, so we ordered a Latte (Rs. 350), and they call it coffee with milk. Served in a tall glass it was visually enticing and tasted just as good.
But the Hot Chocolate (Rs. 400) was out of this world. It was deliciously chocolaty. You know it’s a good when it’s a balance of dark and milk chocolate and doesn’t need a sprinkle of extra sugar!
For our starter we ordered a Mediterranean Bruschette (Rs. 700) which was white bread topped with fresh tomatoes, olives and mozzarella cheese. It was light, fresh and tasty. They make their own bread and import the ingredients to preserve the genuine taste.
For our mains we ordered a Ricotta and Pumpkin Ravioli (Rs. 1100). This was definitely my favourite dish from what we ordered. It was a homemade pasta dish served with pumpkin and ricotta cheese and cooked in a red sauce. The combination of pumpkin and cheese was heavenly when served warm.
The pizza oven is placed in a manner where customers can watch the pizzas being prepared. So we couldn’t leave without trying one. We ordered a Dolce Italia (Rs. 1100), a signature dish of the restaurant. A freshly made thin crust pizza topped with a fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, olive oil, chicken bacon and cheese served right out of the oven. This was the first time I had a runny egg on pizza and I absolutely loved it! It was a 13 inch pizza and large enough to feed two.
For dessert we ordered a Mille-feuille (Rs. 350). It came recommended and did not disappoint us at all! Crunchy pastry layers are filled with a delicious custard and topped with a drizzle of chocolate sauce, it was something I have never tried before and definitely worth going back for.
We also tried a Rocky Road (Rs. 400). I have only had rocky road ice cream before, but this was a delicious brownie with lots of nuts and marshmallows. It was quite sweet but yummy nevertheless.

Our experience was improved by its interior. The inside has a café vibe to it with a pizza oven and a counter filled with delicious goodies. They also have a spacious outdoor space at the back of the restaurant, where they can entertain large groups. You can go there with your family and friends and relax and have a good time. There is also a small library of books and a guitar that you can borrow.
(Ambience - 4/5)
The torteria is open from 11AM to 11PM everyday. They also deliver their goodies to your doorstep. You can call them on (011) 2 869 796 or (011) 5558804 for reservations and deliveries. Check out their Facebook page for more information.
